Throughout the years I have been to many yard,
garage, and rummage sales. I have seen well run sales and some
disorganized sales. I have seen the casual sale goers and an increase
in the professional. Here are a few words of advice that will improve
the experience we all will have.
Having a sale
- Be ready the night before
- Get plenty of change - both samll bills and change
- Place an ad in the local paper and post signs - remove
the signs after the sale
- Price as much as possible
- Clean dusty/dirty items
- Organize items
- Avoid putting "junk" out
- Display items on tables
- Keep your cash on you
- Be ready to bargain when appropriate
- Have bags and packing paper for fragile items
- Have a box for free items in the front
- Have a sign posted with any policies like cash only
- Offer refreshments like coffee or water
- Be prepared for a long day
- Have fun getting rid of stuff!
Going to a sale
- Be courteous to people
- Respect starting times
- Park carefully and legally
- Hold onto items you intend to purchase
- Be patient while other customers are being helped
- Have your cash ready and try to have some smaller bills
- Remember you are at someone's home - behave appropriatly
- Have fun and enjoy you new treasures!
